Each trip to places like Switzerland, Austria and Poland has fueled my desire to see as many countries as I possibly can.
That love for travel became a shared dream when I met my two best friends during our freshman year volleyball tryouts. Throughout our four years of high school, we shared many things in common, such as all of us being from the Czech Republic. Through that connection, our parents also became close, and we have been inseparable ever since. We were fortunate enough to all go to the same college, Pace University, which is located in downtown Manhatten. Although we all stayed close to home and commuted to school during the first two years, we all knew deep down we did not want to go through our years at college without studying abroad. During our sophomore year, our promises became a reality and we all got into the same school, Richmond American University London. It took a lot of planning, but now, hearing our laughter echo in our Chiswick flat makes all that effort worthwhile.
When I was looking at my options, London just made sense. I wanted a total change of scenery from New York, and the idea of living in an old city with a completely different layout was a huge draw. But the biggest factor was its location. As I said, I’ve always wanted to travel more, and being in London puts the rest of Europe right at my doorstep. The ability to take a quick weekend trip to a new country was a major part of why I chose to come here, and it’s something that’s quickly becoming a reality.
So, why am I sharing all of this with you through Reach the World? Because as exciting as this journey is, the process of moving to a new country was also overwhelming.
