All-You-Can-Eat! A Night at the Izakaya with ESS Club

Introduction:

There’s something truly special about attending a social gathering at an izakaya in Japan. More than just a place to eat and drink, an izakaya offers a space where people can come together and build meaningful connections over delicious food. For me, the experience goes beyond the flavors of the dishes — it’s about the sense of belonging that comes from sharing a table and meal with others.

What food did I try?:

I tried yakisoba and nabe (Japanese hot pot) for the first time. Other foods that I ate include ika sushi, karaage, and edamame. For my drink, I had a Japanese lemon sour (レモンサワー).

After we finished eating, it was time for dessert. I chose a dessert called バニラアイス. It was vanilla ice cream topped with banana chips. It was good. However, I'm always amused by how tiny the dessert portion sizes are at an Izakaya. At an American restaurant, the bowl of ice cream would have been three times this size! Nevertheless, I still enjoyed it.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

Well, by the time we got to the izakaya, I was starving, so I was just happy to finally be eating something!
