Poisson d'Avril

One year, a website published a story that they were relocating the Eiffel Tower, a famous French landmark, which is very untrue.

Why does the community have this tradition?:

This tradition has been celebrated for many years, starting in the early 1600s with the French King - Charles the IX.  Before the King, the new year was celebrated at different times all over the country that were important to them. Some celebrated during the end of December, while others celebrated the new year towards the end of March or beginning of April. When the king came to power, he made the official start to the new year on January 1st, but it took a long time for people to adjust to the new start of the year. Some people played tricks on their neighbors during April 1st, giving them fake gifts or pranks to confuse them.

Is this tradition connected to its environment? How?:

Fishing is a big industry in France and during April, fishing is not allowed when the fish reproduce. Friends would prank their fishermen friends with fake fish as a joke.
