Cooking Class in Paris!

Because of this, it contains only vegetables and would usually be whatever vegetables were in season at that time. The soufflé au fromage is famously difficult to cook and get just right because of how airy it is. In French, soufflé comes from the verb souffler which means to blow, which is exactly what you can see the soufflé do as it is in the oven! And of course, for dessert, we had lava cake, which is probably my favorite dessert. It is believed to have originated from France or New York City!

How did I feel when I tried it?:

I am a notoriously picky eater, and one who usually only eats beef dishes, so this meal of only vegetables and cheese was incredibly daunting for me. However, having helped create each of the dishes, I couldn’t help but feel proud of everything we created and incredibly excited to try each dish. We started off with the ratatouille, which I ended up liking. I had never tried half of the vegetables in this dish, so I was surprised they all worked well together! The soufflé au fromage was definitely my favorite of the two. It was light, airy and the “crust” layering the top was a great addition to mix up the textures. I normally hate cheese and will avoid it at all costs, but the taste wasn’t too overwhelming and just added a more savory flavor. The second I cut into the lava cake and saw the molten center, I felt so proud of myself. It was delicious, and I am determined to make it for my host family.

How is the food prepared?:

Each of the dishes is incredibly simple to make, with only a few ingredients needed for each. However, they do take a while to make, especially the ratatouille.
