Food in Chile

It is very tasty with strawberry or blackberry jam! When I first tried hallula, I really liked it and was excited to be sharing my host family's culture with them.

How is the food prepared?:

A torta is cooked in an oven. First you mix all of your ingredients that you're going to put inside of the torta together in a bowl. After that, you lay the crust down in the pan and put all of the ingredients into the crust. Then you bake it!

Hallula is usually made from scratch in the Panederías bread shops in Chile. My host family just makes sure to buy it for once

Is this food connected to the local environment? How?:

Tortacan be filled with many different ingredients. Sometimes they have meat, other times they have vegetables or sometimes both! Chile sells a lot of its own homegrown vegetables and meats at the local grocery stores and at the local markets, so when you make a torta to eat, you can be sure there are locally grown ingredients in it!

Hallula has been around for years in Chile. Although I am not sure of an environmental connection, I do know that Hallula plays a large role in Chile's culture. It is almost always served at once and during special occasions, and Panaderias bread shops can barely keep enough made for all of the people coming in to buy some!
