What was the best meal this week?:

In Jakarta, I had the awesome pleasure of having Sundanese food, which included fried sweet fish and other toppings called Ikan Joget. The Sundanese constitute the second largest ethnic group in Indonesia, second only to the Javanese, so their dishes such as their famed fish are popular around the country.

What music did I listen to this week?:

I actually had the chance to listen to jazz music at a fancy hotel nearby. The hotel I stayed at in Jakarta was in the business district of the city, meaning there were plenty of young professionals or expats (a word often used for people living temporarily outside of their home country and who usually work in business; it is short for "expatriates").

What activity was the most fun this week?:

By far, one of the most fun and memorable activities that my peers and our co-teachers joined in was waiting to take a selfie with the President of Indonesia. Apparently, he was going to speak at an event his friend was hosting in the hotel where we were staying, but we only found out about this after seeing our friend, the hotel manager, look amused when we returned from dinner. The hotel manager told us to play it cool and not look as though we were in a group because then it would look obvious that  we were expecting to keep the President from doing his important activities. We waited an hour and then President Jokowi (affectionally called Jokowi) came in, and if it weren't for the entourage of people in bright batiks (colorful formal shirts with Indonesian patterns), you wouldn't have known that he was one of the most important figures in Indonesia today.
