Farewell, Everyone!

It is the norm to greet everyone on the streets, and people often strike up longer conversations, rather than just saying hello and moving on. This custom intertwines with people not being in a hurry, because they feel as though they have the time to stop what they're doing and chat with their friend or even a stranger.  When I first got to my site, people asked me, “Why are you always in a hurry, and how come you never stop to talk?” This made me think, and I realized they were right. Usually, I was going to do something like grab groceries, or go to the gym, occupations would not be impacted by showing up ten to fifteen minutes later than I had planned. Even when I have plans with friends, I still try to stop and chat with people on my way, as I am not as worried about running late. There are many more examples of cultural clash like this that I will continue to experience over my two years here. I think it is easier to find your true values and to bring about change in yourself when you surround yourself with a new environment.  I hope that you to get to travel and explore the world and its diversity of culture.

It has been a pleasure working with you all, and thank you so much for your time, attention and engagement. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors!
