In fact, I just spent my Halloween weekend in Huaraz, ground-zero for outdoor-adventure in Peru, and man it definitely was an adventure! Huaraz is the closest city to the Cordillera Mountain range, one of the preeminent hiking, trekking, and backpacking spots in South America. The Cordilleras are known for frozen white peaks cutting their way through lime-green valleys filled with jade lakes (i.e., the most beautiful landscape I have ever seen). I visited many of these lakes, including Laguna Parón, the largest in the Cordilleras. On clear days (like we had), you can also see the peaks of 6 surrounding mountains, including Artesonraju, the mountain that inspred the Paramount logo (yes, the American Hollywood film company!!). Overall, it was a weekend spent hiking in the mountains, making new friends, and eating delicious food.
