My name is Ọgọchukwu Chiamaka Agali, but feel free to refer to me as Ọgọ or Chiamaka. I am so excited to connect with you virtually and share my experiences conducting research in Jordan over the coming months.
I was born in Nigeria and came to America when I was four years old. I grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, where I was lucky to have classmates from all over the world. Listening to everyone's lives made me want to travel to their home countries and to try their native dishes. Since I couldn't, I settled for starting a Multicultural Week at my high school to celebrate all of our backgrounds--and to eat lots of yummy snacks.
Since moving to America, I've lived in Missouri, California, Texas, and New Hamsphire. I've enjoyed getting to live in different parts of the United States and to visit other countries (Ghana, Britain, Netherlands, and Nigeria), and I can't wait to add Jordan to that list.
Besides traveling, I have several other hobbies. I love to read and to write, especially poetry and fiction. I am also a big fan of movies, documentaries, and anime. When it comes to moving my body, nothing beats dancing and taking long walks in the evening! I've been part of several dance groups throughout my life, mostly African groups. I also enjoy playing tennis, learning new instruments, and going to museums.
Above all else, I love connecting with other people. Anthropology is the study of humanity, and since taking my first anthropology class my senior year of high school, I have fallen in love with the field. I am always curious in understanding other people's lives, cultures, societies and ideas. I think the world needs more anthropologists, so I hope you'll enjoy learning about the people, cultures, and society of Jordan with me.
