Our News

What main languages are spoken here?:

We have a huge variety of different nationalities represented on board. So far I have counted 10! The languages I have heard are Afrikaans, Zulu, English, French, Norwegian and Dutch.

What type of money is used here?:

We use the South African rand here. However, there is nowhere to spend our money because we are in one the most remote areas of the globe! There is a small shop on board that opens in the morning and evening if we want to treat ourselves to a chocolate bar, soda or packet of chips.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

We do not need to buy bottled water here. On every floor of the ship (there are eight in total) there is a tap which filters clean water. We are all conscious not to waste plastic and have all bought our own water bottles on board to refill. Working in the ocean, it is clear to me that the over-demand on plastics is very dangerous for our planet. A lot of the plastic that we throw away ends up in our oceans, polluting the habitat of marine life.

What was the best meal this week?:

I tried a South African meal this week call Babooty. It was delicious! It was a spiced minced beef pie with potato on top. It also had peas cooked into the dish.

What music did I listen to this week?:

I love music! Before I come off-shore for long periods, I always download a lot of music!
