Mandarin is the main language spoken in Shenyang. However, most people know at least some English.
The currency in Shenyang is called Yuan, or RMB. Sometimes people refer to money as kuai as well. It is similar to saying "a buck" in the United States.
A bottle of water costs 1.76 yuan. That is the equivalent of 30 cents. It is very affordable to drink water here!
The best meal I had this week was homemade vegetable dumplings with rice and soy sauce. I loved making it so much that I made it twice this week. It was delicious!
I have been strolling down memory lane and listening to old Liz Phair lately. In the spirit of the 90’s, I have also listened to a lot of Mariah Carey as well. Between both artists, I have been feeling simultaneously rebellious and proud.
I really enjoyed the time spent with my Chinese tutor this week. Although practicing the words was challenging, my tutor has been extremely patient and kind. I couldn’t ask for a more considerate and kinder person to help me learn the local language.
