Transportation in Budapest

Introduction:

The transportation is super convenient in Budapest; it is really easy to get just about anywhere. I think that many more people use the public transportation here rather than driving cars. It is much easier and cheaper! A lot of people also bike, and there are many bike lanes on the city streets. Budapest is much smaller than New York City, so it is also easier to walk places than it might be in a truly big city. I could probably walk from one side of the city center to the other in about one hour.

How do people get around?:

People in Budapest get around by tram, bus, metro, bike, car, and on foot. The metro is basically a subway. They are really fast and generally take you to any main square in the city. The metros also go to the airport and to the suburban city outskirts, where people can take other buses to get further outside the city. There are five main metro lines in the city. They even have a metro line that goes under the river in a tunnel. The trams are basically trains that are above ground; they are very efficient and fun to ride! There are both old and new trams. The buses are found all over the city and run on electric lines above the streets.

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

I truly enjoy the public transportation here in Budapest!
