Hungarian Cuisine

Introduction:

Traditional Hungarian dishes are primarily based on meats, seasonal vegetables, fruits, fresh bread, dairy products and cheeses. There are many Hungarian restaurants near my dorm, but all Hungarian people tell me the best traditional Hungarian food comes from their grandmother. It looks like I'll need to visit a Hungarian family sometime soon!

What food did I try?:

I have tried some delicious Hungarian foods. Some of these include goulash soup, lecso, chicken paprikash, and many different salamis. Hungarians have very tasty meats, and in a grocery store you might see 20 different types of salamis! The food culture here is based around a lot of stews and peppers. They enjoy hot peppers (paprika). I love spicy food, too, so this is perfect! The goulash soup is probably the most traditional Hungarian dish. It is a stew with meat, onion, pepper, and small dumplings. It can be served spicy or fairly plain, but I prefer it spicy! Lecso is a great dish that is similar to a ratatouille, a meat stew with peppers and onions. It is less of a soup than goulash. Chicken paprikash is a creamy pepper sauce on chicken, with pasta on the side. My favorite of the three had to be goulash. It is very warm, and I felt full after eating it!

How did I feel when I tried it?:

After trying all of these dishes, I felt full and hearty. The stews are thick and warm your body up. It is very nice on a rainy day!
