Our News

What activity was the most fun this week?:

This week I had a lot of fun baking for my students. I made chocolate chip cookies for everyone and then I had the high schoolers make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Peanut butter is not really popular outside of America, so this was everyone's first PB&J. Out of the 15 students who tried the sandwich, not one single person liked it! This classic American snack was just too strange for my Czech students.

What did I read this week?:

I am currently reading a Czech novel translated into English called Saturnin by Zdeněk Jirotka (1942). It's a comedy about a "dangerous" servant who goes outside of social norms to do whatever he pleases. The result is usually pretty hilarious. So far, I am really enjoying the story.

What games or sports did I play this week?:

My main mode of exercise here is hiking. In fact, outdoors sports are really popular in the Czech Republic. The city I live in, Lanškroun, has an annual festival dedicated to hiking and cycling. This year over 8,000 people participated in some sort outdoor activity, including myself. My friends and I walked 15 kilometers (about nine miles) through the countryside, and everyone received a medal!

Other news from this week:

This week I found out that I will be travelling to Poland for a "fake news" media conference in Warsaw. I'm very excited! It's pretty easy to travel from country to country in the European Union. You often don't need a passort or to go through immigration, so I hope to see a lot more of Europe while I am in the Czech Republic.
