Autumn is here and the days are growing shorter! This week the cold began to set in and many storms passed through the Czech Republic, full of wind, rain and even a little bit of hail. I turned my heater on for the first time this season.
This Sunday I actually got to see a new type of animal that I had never seen before: a nutria (or coypu). At first I was a little startled, as my friends and I were walking along the Elbe river, I heard a huge splash and saw a huge rat flop into the water. As it turns out, it wasn't a rat but a different kind of rodent, the nutria, that lives in the water and on land all over the Czech Republic. They are actually pretty cute.
On a hike this week, my friend showed me the ruins of an abandoned castle from the 1300s named Štarkov Castle. They were absolutely stunning. The castle was originally built into the natural landscape and boulders made of gneiss. Only a few towers and walls remain today.
