Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

Overall, I walked about 80 miles total over the 8 days  I was in Rome, Florence, Cinque Terre, and Interlaken, so that's about eight miles per day! This is a lot of walking, but it was very much worth it. By buses and trains, we traveled an additional 800 miles!

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

The whole of the trip, which took us by plane from Santiago to Rome, then by train to Florence, by bus to and from Cinque Terre, by train briefly to Milan, by bus to Interlaken, and finally by bus to Stuttgart, Germany to fly back to Santiago, covered approximately 2,746 miles.  Then there is the more than 3000 miles I had to travel in order to get from the U.S.A. to Europe!

How did I get around this week?:

As already mentioned, in order to travel within the different cities and to explore the natural areas, we primarily walked. One really nice thing about most European cities is that most of them have excellent public transportation systems, so when we were tired of walking or needed to travel longer distances within cities, we were able to take buses without a problem. In order to travel between cities, we used long-distance buses and long-distance, high-speed trains. To begin and end the journey, we flew, first from Santiago to Rome, then back from Stuttgart to Santiago.
