What main languages are spoken here?:

The main language is Mongolian, which uses a different alphabet, called the Cyrillic alphabet. So far, I can introduce myself, count, take a taxi, order my food and buy a few items! "Hello" in Mongolian is pronounced "Sain baina uu." 

What type of money is used here?:

The currency is called "tugrik." 20,000 tugrik is about eight U.S. dollars. 

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A bottle of water costs about 1000 tugrik, or 41 cents!

What was the best meal this week?:

The best meal was rice with corn at Saraa's Ger Camp, where I went for a horseback ride. Yum! 

What music did I listen to this week?:

I went to Kareoke (a popular pastime in Ulaanbaatar) with some of the staff at my school, and sang along to some popular Mongolian songs!

What activity was the most fun this week?:

Hiking up the rolling, rocky foothills of Hustai National Park! 

What did I read this week?:

I read lots of English grammar books as I thought about how to best present the concepts to my Mongolian students. I also continued reading from "Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World," a book about Mongolian history.
