It's getting chilly in Mongolia! It's only September and we've already had our first snowfall. The days are sunny and clear, but it's definitely time to bring out the winter clothes.
I went hiking in Hustai National Park, a nature reserve about two hours from Ulaanbaatar, and I saw wild horses called takhi, deer, and large rodents called marmots.
The wild takhi horses! They are believed to be the only truly wild horses in history. They have never been domesticated, which means they have never been owned by people. We thought that they went extinct, but they have been living in Mongolia since the 1990s.
This is the best time of year to climb Bogd Ul, the large mountain that overlooks Ulaanbaatar and provides a great view of the city. The scenery on Bogd Ul is quite beautiful.
