The language that is spoken in most major regions in China is Mandarin Chinese. If not Mandarin, it is a dialect of Chinese. For example, the dialect of Nanjing is called Nanjing Guan Hua, while the dialect of Shanghai is Shanghainese.
The money used in China is called the Chinese yuan or 人民币(ren min bi). However, when buying things in a store, people just call money 块 (kuai). For example, 10块 is the same saying 10 dollars.
A bottle of water costs 2块 which is about 30 cents in U.S. dollars.
The best meal this week was definitely the Shanghai barbecue that I had for lunch one day! This type of barbecue is very different from a traditional American barbecue because instead of ordering already cooked meats, the servers will bring the different cuts of meat, raw but already seasoned, for you to cook yourself on the little stovetop that is at the center of the table. It was a great experience because being able to cook it yourself along with friends makes for good bonding time. We had a variety of different foods brought to our table. Aside from meats including beef, pork and lamb, we had soups, rice with cheese mixed in and a bunch of mushrooms wrapped in tin foil to cook as well.
