Getting Around Madrid!

Introduction:

As with many other European cities, Madrid has an extensive public transportation system. Especially for residents who live around the city center, it's more convenient to walk or utilize the public transportation system than it is to drive. Madrid has an excellent train system called a metro and bus system that allows for convenient transportation for anyone who would like to or who needs to use it.

How do people get around?:

The main way to get around Madrid is through the public transportation system or walking. The best comparison within the United States would be to the public transit systems in New York City and Boston. Through the "Consorcio de Transportes de Madrid", the name of the public transportation system, people can buy passes depending on their needs. People under the age of 26 get an amazing deal, for 20 euros a month, they can access the entire system. Seniors also get a discounted price. For people who don't fall into the previous categories, they have a variety of options depending on their preferences. However, the fares vary largely and are much more expensive than the youth fare. For a student like myself, my public transit card can get me anywhere that I need, from the school to the airport and anywhere in between. The metro runs from 6:30 am - 1:30 am every day. There are also buses that run all of the time.
