Switzerland is a very expensive country, and things here usually cost more than they do in the United States. A bottle of water can cost anywhere from 3 to 6 Swiss francs depending on where you buy it. Since the Swiss franc and the American dollar are about the same, this means it costs between $3 and $6 for a bottle of water! I prefer to take my water bottle with me everywhere to fill it up in the sink to avoid this unnecessary cost! Switzerland is known for its super-fresh tap water that comes directly from the mountains.
Swiss food can be very simple and is based on things like potatoes, bread, and cheese. I love Swiss food, but it is good to have some variety! It can be hard to find food from other cultures in Switzerland, but since Geneva is a very international city, it is easy to find interesting food. This week, my friend and I wanted to try a new Chinese restaurant. We ordered spicy noodles and a lot of soup dumplings, one of my favorite items. It tasted a bit different than the Chinese food we get in the United States, but it was really delicious.
My family went to see the musical Hamilton this week in Pittsburgh. Since I am here in Geneva, I could not go but still wanted to be a part of it all, so I have been listening to the album non-stop for the past week! Hamilton is such a popular show that even most people here in Switzerland have heard of it. I think it is so cool and original the way this musical tells the history of the United States and how it came to be. Also, the music is so fun to listen to!
