What are we eating today?

While you can eat halva on its own, you can also pair it with foods and drinks.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

When I arrived in Israel, I knew that I could not be afraid to try new things, including new types of foods. For much of the time during the first week I was in Israel, the faculty offered the other students and me many different kinds of food. Instead of asking what kind of food it was before I tried it, I simply ate the food and allowed myself to decide whether I liked it or not. Only after I tried the food did I ask the locals what it actually was. For example, I ordered a kebab at a small food stand, thinking that it was something similar to ground beef patties, or a hamburger. When I started eating it, I could not get over how delicious it was. Later on in the day, I told a student-faculty member that I ate a kebab, and she told me that it was made of lamb, not beef. I believe that if I had known this before, I would not have given the food a chance because I was not completely familiar with how lamb tasted. Through such a simple experience, I realized how important it is to be open to trying new foods and other experiences.

How is the food prepared?:

Depending on the kind of food, there are many different ways that a dish can be prepared. Most of the time, the meats used in kebabs, such as chicken, beef and lamb, are grilled. Similarly, vegetables can be grilled, too, and they are also often eaten raw.

Another very important part of Israeli cooking is the topic of Kosher foods. Kosher food requires dairy and meat to be separated during the cooking process.
