What main languages are spoken here?:

The primary native language of most Palestinians throughout the Palestinian Territories is Arabic. However, there are Palestinians who live in Jerusalem and throughout Israel who also speak Hebrew. Most people that I come in contact with are quite familiar with English since many schools here start teaching English as a foreign language at an early age. In addition, since there are many international humanitarian assistance and development organizations in Ramallah, you may find people who speak other languages depending on what country the organization is from.

 

What type of money is used here?:

The New Israeli Shekel is the currency that is most widely used throughout the Palestinian Territories. Next most popular currency in use is the Jordanian dinar and the U.S. dollar. The Shekel is symbolized by this sign (₪) and is abbreviated as NIS. While many cafes and restaurants in Ramallah and major cities in the West Bank accept cards, it is still largely a cash- and coin-based society. 

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A bottle of water here costs about five shekels which converts to about $1.40. Interestingly, unlike most restaurants or cafes in the U.S.
