What main languages are spoken here?:

Despite being a global city, Korean is the only widely used language in Seoul. Many locals can hold basic conversations in English, but it is best to come to Korea with at least some basic knowledge of the local language. Korean uses an alphabet system, so once you get the hang of it, you can read all the Korean signs in no time!

What type of money is used here?:

The Korean currency is the won (pronounced like "I won the lottery!") The denominations used include the 1,000 won, 5,000 won, 10,000 won and 50,000 won bills. There are four values of coins used: 10 won, 50 won, 100 won and 500 won.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A standard 17-ounce water bottle costs between 500 won and 1,200 won depending on the brand and store. This converts to about $0.44 to $1.06 in U.S. dollars.

What was the best meal this week?:

My best meal this week was a hearty bowl of soondubu jjigae (spicy tofu stew.) The stew comes to the table still boiling in a stone bowl. It is usually served with a bowl of rice and side dishes called banchan. I love the soft tofu and the feeling of dipping a spoonful of white rice into the bright red stew. It's quickly becoming one of my favorite Korean foods!
