The weather has been much warmer than usual! It has been upwards of 65-70 degrees Fahrenheit on the warmest days this week - a stark contrast to the wet colder days I have more often experienced since moving here. A few of my Belgian friends have told me that it is never this warm, and joked that I brought Californian weather with me!
A better question might be: what animals did you not see? In my case, it would have to be squirrels! I am very surprised that there are so few squirrels around in this part of Belgium. They are SO common in California! I have not seen even one squirrel here, yet!
But one animal that I did see yesterday, while at my lab, are lab mice. Now of course, this is not a species that is unique to Belgium. But it was still amazing to see the live animals that we work with. These mice were so small with brown, shiny coats!
