Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

I did not travel far at all this week. I mainly stayed at the National Centre for Biological Sciences. Traveling elsewhere within the city of Bangalore can be a difficult task, given the infamously bad Bangalore traffic. Driving a mere ten kilometers, or six miles, can take an hour and a half on Bangalore roads.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

When I first arrived in India in August 2018, I landed in Delhi (pronounced Del-ee), which is located in the northern part of India. After three days in Delhi, I flew south to Bangalore, where I now live and work. During my stay in Bangalore I have taken weekend trips to other nearby cities. Some of my relatives live in Chennai (pronounced Chen-nay), which is an overnight bus ride away from Bangalore, so I have traveled to visit them a few times. It is over 8,000 miles from Austin, Texas to Delhi, and over 1,300 more miles from Delhi to Bangalore. Since I've also flown to Germany and back, I've probably traveled about 20,000 miles total on this trip so far!

How did I get around this week?:

I traveled aboard an auto rickshaw whenever I needed to travel short distances. An auto rickshaw is a small, yellow, open-air, three-wheeled vehicle that you can hail on the street just like a cab, but the fares are much lower.
