In most homes, families boil their water and store it in containers to drink, just like the water jug in the picture from my kitchen.

What was the best meal this week?:

The best meal I had this week was the avocado soup found in a restaurant inside the famous Plaza Foch of Quito. This soup was served with steamy chicken, crispy tortillas and a fresh toasted piece of bread. I later asked to add shredded cheese to my soup, all of which disappeared to the bottom of the soup but produced a wonderful taste!

What music did I listen to this week?:

Out of all the Spanish radio I listened to while riding taxis in Quito, the two songs I heard most were called "Calypso" by a Puerto Rican artist, Luis Fonsi, and "Dura" by another Puerto Rican artist, Daddy Yankee. This music is considered reggaeton or latin pop, a genre characterized by upbeat music and catchy lyrics that make you want to dance.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

The most fun activity this week was my ten minute ride onto a cable cord car at the El TelefériQo (the Cable Car) of Quito. This car took us about 2.5 meters up the side of the Volcán Pichincha (Pichincha Volcano) and landed us at a station surrounding the Cruz Luma, a land of even terrain near the top of the volcano. This ride only cost about $9.00 and, with a view as amazing as the city of Quito and its surrounding volcanoes, I would definitely travel here again!

What did I read this week?:

This week, I've been reading Ecuador: A Country Study, the 1989 edition that was edited by Dennis M. Hanratty.
