Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

I have traveled 412 kilometers, or 256 miles, outside of Guayaquil to go to Quito. Although the drive from Guayaquil to Quito is almost eight hours long, the flight is only 45 minutes.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

On this journey, I have only traveled to the city of Quito and, an extra hour outside of the city to the Mitad del Mundo (the Middle of the World). With the Quito already 2,500 meters above sea level, I had to brace myself to go to an even higher altitude the next day on the El TelefériQo (the Cable Car of Quito). Luckily, I was well-rested and fully hydrated while at the top of the moutain, counting the number of volcanoes in the distance.

How did I get around this week?:

I traveled to the city of Quito on a 45 minute flight out of the city of Guayaquil. Throughout my time in Quito, I used many taxis and Uber drivers to get around. Sometimes, I went on foot to walk through to the stores, restaurants, and markets nearby.

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

El Mercado Artesanal de Quito (Artisinal Market of Quito) was the most interesting place I visited this week. It was filled with colorful handmade pottery for gifts, home decor and jewelry. I also spotted several keychains, hats and clothing with a variety of prints and patterns.
