A Hidden Paradise

What challenges do people face living in this environment?:

Because it is located so far into the mountains, the quickest way to get in and out of the city is to fly. Otherwise, you may have to drive about four or five hours down some dangerous roads in order to get to another city. The people of Luang Prabang sometimes face landslides on the mountain roads. The landslides can close a road down for many hours at a time, until the mud and dirt is cleared off to the side.

How have people been adapting to this environment?:

Lao people have been adapting by planting rice fields to take advantage of the rainy season as well as brick walls along some roads and riversides to stop the water from washing away too much of the land.
