A Hidden Paradise

Introduction:

Luang Prabang is a small city, hidden within the mountains of Northern Laos. Because of its location in the mountains, the surrounding area is full of untouched nature and beautiful places. Outside of the city, there are gorgeous, turquoise waterfalls and mountain hikes that leave you standing in the clouds. It's a beautiful hidden paradise with both the Mekong River and the Nam Khan River running right alongside the city.

What makes this environment special or different?:

It's a paradise! It's much more difficult to buiild a city in the mountains than it is to build a city on flat land, so there are fewer people and more nature! The Mekong River is a great place for a boat cruise, with amazing places to watch the sunset over the water. People come from all over the world to see the famous natural sites surrounding Luang Prabang, like Kuang Si waterfall.

What parts of this environment help people to live here?:

The mountains are a great place to grow rice. If you put a rice field at the bottom of a mountain, it's easy for water to collect into a small pool there, which is exactly what rice seedlings need to grow. Many Lao people will tell you "rice is life" because each of them eats around 40 pounds of rice in one month! The entire country of Laos is home to many rice fields and I got to visit one!
