Trying New Foods!

Introduction:

When I travel to new places I always try new foods. Trying new foods is great because you learn more about the culture, learn new words, and it is an adventure not knowing how something is going to taste. Think about it: if you look at a plate of food and it does not look good and you do not eat it, you missed out on knowing what those flavors taste like. Who knows? That plate could have become your favorite new meal. Life is about trying new things!

What food did I try?:

The diet in Spain is completely different from that enjoyed by most people in the United States. Some foods that you would never find in the U.S.A. are eaten every day here.

A very common dish in Spain is tortilla de patata. This dish is like a very thick egg omelet with potatoes. It was the first thing I tried after arriving in Spain! Even though I was not hungry, I still bought one because the group I was with insisted I had to try it. They said it is one of the best foods in Spain.

I have also tried the bread from Spain. In fact, it is hard to avoid bread here since it is eaten with every meal. This sounds weird, but in Spain the bread tastes different to the kinds which I typically eat in America: meaning that it is really good!  This may have something to do with the fact that it is generally freshly baked and typically has a compact crumb texture and a chewy crust which is hard to beat!
