Trying New Foods!

Another food I have tried is gazpacho (Gas-Pa-Cho). Gazpacho is a common free tapa (small food item) in many bars or restaurants in Granada. I was excited to taste this dish until I took my first bite...

How did I feel when I tried it?:

Since my arrival in Spain, I have tasted amazing new foods here that I now love.  But some of the other foods that I have tried made me feel so nauseous that I was afraid I might have to run out of the room! An example of this was last month when my host family  took me to a restaurant and the first thing they served was gazpacho. It looked like a tomato soup. It had a beautiful reddish orange color and smelled amazing, so I had a huge spoonful.  But it was bitter and COLD! Have you ever had cold tomato soup, with no seasoning? Well don’t.

I had to swallow the gazpacho even though the taste was terrible, I think the tomatoes might even have been rotten. I then took my soda and drank half of it to get the taste out of my mouth. Now I know that I do not like gazpacho. But this experience is not going to stop me from trying new foods while I am in Spain!

At the other end of the food spectrum, I had a better experience when tasting the tortilla de patata. When I got picked up from the airport to to go to my destination, I told the group that I had never eaten this dish before, so we made a stop just so that I could try it. My first bite was magical - how can something so simple be so delicious? The best part about this dish is because it is so common, everyone knows how to make it.
