Dance also brings different communities together. People from all cultures, whether native Samoan or visiting students like me, are easily connected by music, friends, family and food!
The traditional dances are also a reflection of Samoans' cultural ties to their land. The movements of the dances are very grounded to represent the strong terrain beneath our feet. Women tend to dance with graceful, flowy hand and foot movements that are inspired by the dancing ocean waves and winds that pass through the islands.
