Samoa: A World of Color

The Heliconias grow in an upright position and have cup-shaped flowers that store water for themselves and insects and birds. The plant also has downward-facing flowers that provide nectar for birds.

What can harm this creature or plant? Are we worried about it?:

The Heliconia is currently a threatened plant species. Threatened species are species which could possibly become endangered in the near future. The greatest threat to this plant is from humans because deforestation disrupts the ecosystem of the Heliconia, possibly even killing the plants themselves along with their habitat if the entire thing is destroyed. It is important to educate people about the need to protect and conserve our natural world to prevent plants and animals from becoming endangered or extinct.
