This weekend I travelled to Kaoshiung City, which is about 128 miles from where I live in Guan Shan. It took a little over three hours to get there by train.
My home in Buffalo, NY is about 7,720 miles from Taitung. It takes 15 hours to get from New York to Taiwan's capital city Taipei, and then another 45 minutes to get from Taipei to Taitung.
I mostly get everywhere on my scooter, which is similar to a motorcycle except it doesn't go quite as fast. Driving a scooter was a little scary at first, but I've definitely gotten much better at it! If I take a day trip into Taitung City, I usually take the train, which takes about 35 minutes.
While I was in Kaoshiung over the weekend, I took a boat over to a small island off the coast of the city. My friends and I rented bikes so we could ride around the island and see the beautiful coastline. It was so interesting to see all the Buddhist temples along the bike path and hear people playing music from them.
