Sinterklaas's Arrival in Rotterdam

This Saturday, Sinterklaas arrived in Rotterdam off a steamboat from Spain! I joined the festivities to experience for myself the tradition of Sinterklaas and Zwarte Piet.

Rotterdam has started decorating for Christmas already

Although many people find the tradition of Zwarte Piet to be racist, the protesters were respectful of the young children at the event and did not make any disruptions other than the sign

The square was teeming with families and Zwarte Piets, excitedly waiting for Sinterklaas

I drank hot cocoa at the festival, YUM!

Even the bookstores prepared for Sinterklaas!
