Travel News

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

As I mentioned, I didn't travel far this week. I am still learning about my local community and watching things change during different seasons and over time.

An interesting change that is happening now is at the Kazungula Bridge. It is the only quad point in the world where four countries meet: Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Recently the presidents of Botswana and Zambia agreed that the bridge needs to be open 24 hours a day, so that people and trucks can move freely between the countries. Currently, it is only open between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m., and there is often a long line of trucks waiting to cross and go through inspections and immigration. The deadline for implementation is April 1.

Other Travel News from this week:

Next week, I am going on an adventure to Western Zambia to a village called Mongu to see the Kuomboka Ceremony. It has been celebrated for over 300 years at the end of rainy season. The upper Zambezi River floods the plains of the Western Province with rain water from Angola and northern Zambia. The festival celebrates the movment of the king and queen of the Lozi people from their compund in the floodplain to higher ground. There will be drumming and canoes and barges, lasting many hours. I will share more in upcoming posts!
