The procession from the summer palace to the landing at the harbor takes several hours, and the paddlers carefully navigate down the river. There were hundreds of people watching along the route and thousands were waiting at the harbor to welcome their arrival. The local people wore traditional outfits, with the men sporting brightly colored cotton skirts with vests and red berets. The women wore beautiful dresses and head scarves.
During my stay, I slept in a traditional grass hut to celebrate and appreciate how people in the area have lived for hundreds of years.
