Seollal follows the lunar calendar (Chinese calendar), which is based on the moon and the changing of the seasons. Even hanboks can be connected to the environment. South Korea has very harsh weather during the winter and the summer. Because of the loose and layered design, it is useful for Korea’s hot summers and cold winters. Children’s Day can also be seen as connected to the environment. It is celebrated in spring when the weather is nice for families to visit parks, zoos and amusement parks. These traditions show that Korean culture is not only about history, but also about nature, family life and the environment people live in.
