I often walked by and thought, “I should stop and buy something.” Every time I found an excuse: I have to go to the gym now, it’s raining, I’m in a hurry, I don’t have any cash or only a twenty, which nobody ever wants to break for change. Any number of silly excuses. I finally stopped to buy some strawberries and avocadoes on Thursday. She was so friendly and even asked when I planned to eat the avocadoes so she could give me the best ones. Avocadoes are so tricky to buy. They either take forever to ripen or you wait too long when they’re too ripe to use and you end up throwing them away. She was such a nice lady. I’m sorry it took me so long to stop by.
Another goal before I leave is to go into more shops that I pass by all the time. I ate at a shawarma restaurant, and it was very tasty. I’ve been eating more vegan gelato, which is such a luxurious treat! I went into a French bakery that I’ve always been curious about. It looks so modern and pretty when I go by. The interior is all white with a big display of delicious looking pastries. I went in and bought some cookies and a hazelnut pastry. Everything was fantastic! They have a French pastry chef who incorporates many of the local Ecuadorian fruits and flavors into these beautiful cakes, tarts and cookies. I’m so glad I finally went in, and plan to go back again soon!
There is a cheese tea shop that I went to nearby, called Micky Cha. Maybe you know all about cheese tea, but I had to look it up while standing on the street outside the shop. It’s tea with a topping of whipped cream, cheese and milk, so the final flavor effect is a combination of sweet and salty. I would try it, but unfortunately, dairy products make me sick. I did have a fruit drink of maracuyá, which was wonderful.
