The various indigenous groups in the Sierra Nevadas have adapted well to their environment since the difficult times during the 1960 - 2000. The drug traffickers and rebel soldiers made life more difficult for these communities, but since they have been recently pushed out by government forces, the native populations have invested their time and energy into farm irrigation and sustainability. In addition, now that the Lost City trek is becoming more popular, these communities have learned how to benefit from tourism by providing tours and insight into native life in the Sierra Nevadas for financial gain. Lastly, the native populations have learned how to profit from natural resources that grow well in the area and are popular worldwide, like coffee!
