What Do You Get When You Cross a Yak and a Hill Cow?

However, these animals depend on the will of herders to continue breeding them because they don’t exist naturally. Herders bring in yaks exclusively from Tibet for breeding chauri because they produce more milk than yaks. They can also carry heavy loads up and down the mountains because they’re stronger than other hill cattle. This also means they don’t choose where to go, because breeders raise them as a way to make a living.

What can harm this creature or plant? Are we worried about it?:

Lots of different factors may harm the chauri population in the coming years. A few of the top environmental threats include hungry leopards, disease and possibly global warming because they’re not suited for warm climates. On top of these environmental factor, breeders will typically kill a baby from a chauri because the second generation animals produce less milk and aren’t as strong as the first cross. Unfortunately, the chauri are also threatened by modernization. In recent years, the populations of both yaks and chauri have significantly declined because many people have started looking for other work in cities. Most herders don’t need to raise as many of them for income anymore, so every year they become more and more scarce.
