My name is Rebekah Williams (Bekah), and I am currently living in Rwanda, Africa. I will be 27 years old on April 16th. My parents’ names are Robert Williams and Denice Honaker. I have an older brother, Ben, and a little brother, Thomas. My brothers and I were all born in Richmond, Indiana. We grew up in a tiny town called Fountain City. We attended Northeastern Elementary and High School. Fountain City is kind of like small towns you see in the movies. Everyone knows everyone and all your business, too. When you go to the grocery store, you always meet at least two people who know you or your family.
After I graduated high school, I went to college at Indiana University-Purdue University, Fort Wayne. I had always been told I would be a great teacher. Both my parents are teachers, so why not me? I started studying elementary education, and the summer after my freshman year, I went on a trip to Los Angeles, California that further inspired me. I was there for a week and a half volunteering with some friends at a non-profit organization called the Dream Center. While I was there, I learned about a job opportunity at the Dream Center. You can live there for a year, working in exchange for free food and housing, but you don’t make any money while you are there.
