Adapting to Life in the UK

Eventually, I realized that I had to accept things as being different in order to feel comfortable here. I began to enjoy the slightly different tasting soft drinks, and the fact that people use reusable bags that are better for the environment. I even started trying more British activities. I found UK foods like pasties and Irn Bru (a soft drink) that I really like. I visited churches like an English church in Exeter. These were different from places I had been back home but still enjoyable and fun to learn about. However, I also started to cook some of the foods that I would eat at home, so that I had them to remind me of the United States.

Overall, studying or travelling in a foreign country can be challenging.  It may take time and trial and error to learn how to do simple things, like buying groceries, because people all over the world have different methods of completing everyday tasks. However, one of the most fun parts of traveling is learning about all of these differences and figuring out how to live in a new environment.
