Field Note: Nature

In the desert, they eat thorny plants like cacti; their mouths protect them from the thorns so they can get all the nutrients they need.

How does it use its environment to survive?:

Remember how I said camels are tall? Their long legs keep them away from the heat of the desert sand in the summer, which allows them to stay cool. They have the ability to shut their nostrils during a sandstorm to keep the sand out, and their long eyelashes prevent sand from getting in their eyes.

What can harm this creature or plant? Are we worried about it?:

The camels in the Sahara are not endangered today. They have been domesticated by humans and they are often people's main source of meat, milk, and even leather or wool products. When they feel threatened, their defense is to spit. They are known for sometimes spitting on humans.
