Energy in Japan

Is this need being met? How?:

Yes, the need for electricity is being met in a variety of ways here. Japan relies heavily on nuclear energy, which is energy created during nuclear fission and fusion. This energy form is very cost-efficient because the operating cost of nuclear plants is lower than that of almost all fossil fuel plants. The problem with nuclear energy is that the waste it creates because of its radioactivity is very dangerous for the environment and human health. This waste can only be stored, not destroyed, so proper storage is extremely important. Nuclear reactor disaster or failure is the worst potential problem of using this type of energy. Japan faced a nuclear disaster due to the tsunami of 2011, after which radioactive material was released from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. This material has the potential to cause cancer in humans and mutations in animal and plant life.

Scientists are trying to come up with better ways to manage nuclear waste and prevent nuclear diasters, the major drawbacks of this type of energy. The Japanese government and private companies are also implementing changes to switch to other clean, safe energy sources like solar and wind energy, since they are cheaper and better for the environment.
