Bonjour tout le monde! Hello everyone! I am excited to discuss language with you, and I hope to share a video of people (or me) speaking French later on. I would love to practice some important French phrases with you during this week’s video call! I have been learning French for several years now, and despite it being super hard at times, I have really enjoyed this experience. Learning a second language is such an exciting adventure because it allows you to dive deeper into another culture and learn more about the world. I never would have been able to live in France if it weren’t for studying French.
French is the main language spoken in France, but there are many different regional dialects. In the Béziers region of Occitanie, there is an ancient dialect called Occitan that is now endangered. It is spoken in other parts of Southern France, and even in parts of Northern Spain, Monaco, and Italy, but I have yet to hear anyone speak Occitan because it is, sadly, in the process of becoming extinct with most current speakers likely being older people whom I haven't had the chance to meet. Here's a link to let you hear what this language sounds like.
