Hey Ms. Butler-Doran's 1st-and-2nd period classes, it's been a while!
It's almost the end of May, and my family is coming to visit Zambia! I'm super excited to introduce them to my host family and show them the different modes of transportation I use here. I've now been living in Zambia for a whole year, and I'm able to really relate with my neighbors. People here were really excited whenever I brought you all up in conversation. I hope you got to learn something about Zambia and how El Niño and global weather patterns affect agricultural societies.
Visiting different places is a great way to learn more about yourself. More than that, putting in the time and energy to understand a new culture gives you a different way of thinking about life and seeing the world. As young people, I think that gaining new perspectives and learning how to think in different ways is what education is all about.
I'm here with the Peace Corps, a U.S. government program that supports Americans to better understand foreign cultures and foreign people to better understand American culture, and provides trained individuals who can help on projects in foreign countries.
