Welcome to Gbrumani!
In my community, the population is around 2,500 people. We also have an elementary school and a middle school. The students need to travel to a different town to go to high school. We also have our own small clinic where we treat everyday needs such as small injuries and vaccinations. There are three small stores in Gbrumani that sell water, soda, and some crackers. For all other food you have to travel out of the community.
Everyone in Gbrumani lives is mud huts. Each family has a collection of three to five mud huts that they place in a circle to create a "compound". This way the whole family including the parents, children, and grandparents can all live together. Each family also owns lots of goats, sheep, and chickens. Sometimes the animals will have their own hut in the compound, but usually, they just sleep outside.
I learned that the largest need for my community is access to clean water. The only source of water is from the dam. The dam collects water during the rainy season and is used throughout dry season. It is located half a mile away from the community. If you need water, it is a one mile round trip. The women go to collect water every day, multiple times a day. They carry the water in large buckets on their heads and are so good at this they don't even need to use their hands to balance it!
