This week brought the beginning of Ramadan, which is a month-long religious tradition. During this month, Muslims will fast from sunrise to sunset, which means abstaining from food and drinks. There are also other aspects of Ramadan, such as events for family and friends, traditional meals or desserts and special prayers. I will explore more of these traditions throughout the month!
Even before Ramadan began, people were starting to prepare. Some preparations I saw were sales at the grocery store and people shopping for new outfits or decorations. During Ramadan, schools and businesses are open for shorter hours during the day, so people also had to prepare for their new schedule. For example, the university that I work at is shortening all of their classes and ending the day around two hours earlier. I don't have many photos to share yet, so I am also including photos from Bahraini National Day in December. This was a non-religious celebration to celebrate Bahrain's independence (like the Fourth of July).
